Legal Disclaimer
PolicyBot generates document templates based on your inputs. It is not a substitute for an attorney. Read this carefully before relying on the output.
What PolicyBot is
PolicyBot takes 8 inputs about your product (company name, what you collect, third-party services, target geography, age of users, etc.) and assembles a Privacy Policy and Terms of Service from common, widely-used clause patterns. The output is delivered as HTML and PDF.
The clause patterns are inspired by frameworks like the GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA — meaning they cover the topics those regulations typically require — but inclusion of a topic is not the same as compliance. Compliance depends on your actual data practices, your contracts with third parties, your cookie banners, your data-deletion processes, and a lot of other things outside the scope of a document.
What PolicyBot is NOT
- It is not a law firm and does not provide legal services.
- It does not create an attorney-client relationship.
- It does not guarantee compliance with GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, HIPAA, GLBA, or any other regulation.
- It does not customize for your specific jurisdiction. Laws vary by state, country, and industry.
- It does not review your actual product, your actual data flows, or your actual third-party contracts.
- It is not a substitute for legal counsel before a launch, an investment round, or an acquisition.
When to consult an attorney instead
You should engage a qualified attorney — not just a template — if any of the following apply to you:
- You handle health information (HIPAA), financial data (GLBA, PCI-DSS), or children's data under 13 (COPPA).
- You operate in the EU/UK and process personal data of EU/UK residents at scale.
- You are a regulated industry: healthcare, finance, insurance, legal, education, telecom, gambling, alcohol, firearms, cannabis.
- You are raising venture capital or pursuing an acquisition where due diligence requires reviewed policies.
- You sell to government or enterprise customers with required vendor compliance documentation.
- You have users in California exercising CCPA rights (deletion, portability, sale opt-out) and need procedures, not just disclosures.
- You receive a regulator inquiry, a data subject request, or a breach.
Your responsibility
By using PolicyBot you agree that you are responsible for:
- Reviewing the generated documents and customizing them for your business.
- Ensuring your actual practices match what the documents claim. Saying you don't sell data, then selling data, is worse than not having a policy.
- Updating your documents whenever your data practices change.
- Determining whether the documents are appropriate for your jurisdiction and industry.
- Consulting an attorney for jurisdiction-specific or high-risk situations.
